What do you sell?

Brand identity design. A brand has been described as an organization, service or product with a “personality” that is shaped by the perception of the audience. A designer cannot “make” a brand - only the consumer can do this. A designer forms the foundation of the brand.

The identity design is based around the visual devices used within a company assembled with a set of guidelines. These guidelines determine how these visual devices are applied through a variety of media, using approved color palettes, fonts, layouts, measurements and more. This ensures that the company’s identity is kept coherent and properly established which in turn allows the brand to be recognized.

A logo is for identification. A logo identifies a company or product via the use of a mark, flag, symbol or signature. A logo does not sell the company directly. Rarely does it describe a business. Logos derive their meaning from the quality of the thing it symbolizes, not the other way around. Logos are there to identify not to explain. In other words, it’s meaning is more important than what it looks like.

How much does it cost to work with you?

It varies depending on what’s needed. We're happy to send a quote or give a ballpark when we know more specifics.

Such and such charges less. Can you match them?

No. Design isn’t a commodity.

“A commodity is anything for which there is demand, but which is supplied without qualitative differentiation across a market. In other words, copper is copper. Rice is rice. Stereos, on the other hand, have many levels of quality. And, the better a stereo is, the more it will cost.”

In the same way that clients choose their designers, designers choose their clients. It’s up to the designer to work with those who are the best match for their skills.

How long will the project take to complete?

Time frames generally vary from three weeks to three months depending on deliverables.

Can you start now?

Possibly. Our focus is always on current clients, and we try not to work on more than two projects at a time. That’s good news for those who hire us — they get a lot more of our time and attention. Feel free to ask.

What exactly do I get during a project?

After the questions have been asked and we’ve done our research, and drafted a design brief, clients play an important role in deciding what direction the identity will take. We’ll come up with a variety of appropriate ideas, they’ll be narrowed down to the strongest possible options before ultimately we prepare and send a PDF presentation showing the best designs in a variety of relevant contexts (on signage, clothing, business cards, etc.).

Feedback is taken on board, possible revisions are made, and when everyone’s excited at the result, artwork is supplied in original formats along with full ownership.

Can you make my design look similar to this?

That’d be easy, but is it really a good idea to fit in? It’s more difficult, but ultimately much more rewarding, if the design sets a company apart.

You’re in a different country from me. Will this affect things?

Some of our clients are overseas. As much as we enjoy meeting face-to-face, we’ve found that talking on the phone, through video calls, and communicating by email can save everyone a lot of time that would otherwise be spent traveling.

Can you help with printing?

How do you accept payment?

With most projects, we ask for a 50 percent downpayment by bank transfer before scheduling the work. The remaining 50 percent is paid on completion and just before we send original artwork.
